In short
When you travel, your routine disappears: different food, different times, often little sleep. That’s exactly when you’re most likely to forget your nutrients. The easiest way to stay on track is a routine that is small, pre-portioned and hand-luggage friendly.
Why it gets harder on the go
No routine
At home the bottle is always in the same place. In a hotel there’s no fixed routine, and before you know it a day is forgotten.
Different food
Airport, restaurant, meetings: on the go you often eat fewer vegetables and more fast food.
Time zones
A shifted day-night rhythm also mixes up meal times and when you take your supplements.
5 tips for on the go
A fixed time. Always take your nutrients at the same time of day, for example with your first glass of water after getting up, whatever the time zone.
Portions instead of tubs. Single servings are quicker to pack than a tub of capsules, and you can see at a glance whether you’ve taken them.
Think hand luggage. What you carry with you can’t get lost, even if your suitcase takes a detour.
Drink water. The air on planes is very dry. A glass of water with your daily serving is a good start.
A day off is no drama. More important than perfection is getting straight back into it after your trip.
What can go in your hand luggage?
At most airports in Switzerland and the EU, the rule for liquids is: a maximum of 100 ml per container, all together in a clear, resealable bag of about 1 litre. Some airports with new scanners allow more. Check your airport’s rules before you fly.
| Sachets | Capsules | Bottle | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand luggage | Yes, 15 ml each | Yes | Usually too big |
| Space | Flat, fits anywhere | Tub takes up space | Bulky |
| Intake | Into a glass of water | Swallow | Spoon needed |
| Overview | 1 sachet = 1 day | Count | Measure |
The best routine is the one that also works in a hotel room.
Frequently asked questions
Should I take more vitamins when travelling?
No. Your normal daily serving is enough. What matters more is not forgetting it on the go.
When do I take my serving with jet lag?
Easiest is in the morning, local time, with your first glass of water of the day.
Can I pack liquid supplements in my suitcase?
Yes. In checked luggage there are usually no 100 ml limits for food supplements. Close them tightly and pack them upright.
Do food supplements replace a balanced diet?
No. They complement a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle, but they don’t replace them.
